About My Reiki Journey
I originally found Reiki by a most convoluted set of coincidences - I had never even heard the word mentioned before, yet one day I found myself driving an hour each way to have a treatment from someone I did not know. On the drive there I wondered what on earth I was doing and if I was being 'conned'! But I was searching for a way forward and so it seemed that the least I could do was pay some attention to this and see what happened.
Well, everything changed that day and I booked myself onto the next available Reiki 1 course. The course was life changing for me and I pursued my knowledge and understanding of Reiki passionately; I read all the books I could and practised on myself, friends, family and my dogs on a daily basis. Reiki 2 was next and strengthened my commitment. On a personal level, I found I was calmer, more centred and I was sleeping so well! Best of all, the challenges I had experienced for many years with back problems caused by horse riding accidents were disappearing. If I had any doubts about Reiki 'working', then they were certainly swept away now.
By now I had set up my own Reiki practice and hundreds of treatments later, I knew it was time for the logical progression to Reiki Master/Teacher level - although I was not sure that I actually wanted to teach Reiki yet, if at all. My only concern at this point, was that I felt that something was missing - some of the history of Reiki reaching the West and the subsequent Western practices just felt a little, well, wrong - put it down to my early life in the far East if you want to but it was probably just the more I read of new discoveries regarding the truth of the way Reiki was brought to the West by Hawayo Takata made me wonder. Anyway, I continued onto Reiki Mastership and after the course, I knew that I could not teach or pass on this view of Reiki. I wanted to find the truth about Reiki and its origins. Searching on the Internet I found Taggart King's Reiki Evolution website and devoured every word on it. I then re-did both Reiki 1 and Reiki 2 with Taggart before moving onto my Reiki Master/Teacher course with him.
With Taggart, I found not only the truth but also an extremely professional way of teaching; one that I would be proud to emulate and also one that sat well with my past experiences as a Trainer. The Original Usui Method of Natural Healing is so very beautful; it is pure and simple, free of Western 'stuff' and as a result is, in Taggart's words, "Simple, elegant, uncluttered and powerful". It is also very important to tell you that the ongoing support I have received from both Taggart and Lorraine, is second to none. The manuals and CDs prepared by Taggart are comprehensively detailed and are the best I have seen. I am grateful to be able to use them on my courses and you too, when you come to Reiki Master/Teacher level, will be able to teach from them with confidence - even if you have never taught before.
From learning and practising Reiki (it is a cornerstone in my life as I practise the meditations and self treatments every day) I knew the time had to come for a completely new direction in my life. So I finally had the courage to do what I have always wanted to do - to learn more therapies and have my own practice providing the very best in treatments for my clients as well as providing the best Reiki training for my students! Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Indian Head Massage, Hot Stones and Therapeutic/Holistic Massage all benefit from my Reiki ability. And of course, all my clients benefit from my Reiki ability as Reiki flows into and through all of these other therapies. My beautiful treatment room is also my teaching room - wonderfully gentle and nurturing energy flows in this lovely old thatched and timber framed home - and it is important to me to create a safe and caring environment for all - my clients and my students.
